Nature Mandala Project
What is a Nature Mandala?
“A nature mandala is a harmonious radial design created from materials that come from nature such as rocks, stick, flowers, fruit, pine cones, etc. Each Nature Mandala is made with intention and prayer, as a blessing for the land and the people that gather there. It is a temporary art installation that can either be removed or left for nature to gradually take away” (divinenaturearts.com)
Project Summary:
Pat Hurley and West Mesa Neighborhoods are challenged by gun violence and domestic abuse. At a recent unveiling of a community mural at San Pedro Public Library, artist Warren Montoya, said the best way to prevent any kind of violence is to bring people together. This Mandala creation made on April 27, 2024 required children, parents, teachers, and community members to connect fluidly through art, nature, fun, and creation. When we create it gives us a sense of confidence; when we create together in community, we have the power to make positive changes in the world. This City of ABQ Park Pop event bolstered positive community building for the Pat Hurley and West Mesa neighborhoods as well as associations with whom we live nearby.
